For Juniors Only

Juniors and Parents:

The next year and a half will be an exciting experience for you and your daughter.  Before you know it she will be off to college and making her own way in the world.  To help you make a smooth transition I have compiled the following suggestions and timeline.  Also, please find several forms that you will need and articles that may be of interest.

FEBRUARY

•Attend the College Fair – info enclosed

MARCH

•  Register for the SAT I - (Mt. Alvernia’s School Code is 393720.)

•  Register for the SATII (if you plan to attend a “selective” college/university.)

•  Visit the Guidance Office to learn more about the schools/programs that interest you.

• Use online resources to gather more information.

• Research academic opportunities available over the summer.

• Plan one or more college visit(s.)

APRIL/MAY

•Take the SAT I

•Take the SAT II if necessary

•Review admission requirements for the schools that you are interested in.

•Make sure your goals are realistic.

•Attend one or more college open houses

SUMMER BEFORE SENIOR YEAR

• Visit colleges and universities – make appointments when possible, obtain applications.

•Schedule interviews wherever possible.

•Create a resume of your High School activities that can be updated often and easily.

•Attend a summer program at a college/university.

Applications for some colleges/university may need to be completed and turned in to the Guidance office by the end of October in your senior year.  This will come quickly!  If you only begin this process in August you will be extremely overwhelmed with all that you need to do (in addition to schoolwork.)  If you should have any questions or concerns regarding college admissions please call me at 412-821-4018.

Sincerely,
